Early Gum Disease Treatment Can Save Your Smile

Reduce Discomfort

By getting rid of bacteria and reducing the size of your gum pockets, Dr. Rodney E. O'Connor can eliminate side effects of gum disease including bleeding gums, bad breath, and swelling.

Improve Aesthetics

Gum disease can increase the size of the pockets around your teeth and make your looks look inflamed or discolored. By encouraging your gum tissue to reattach to your tooth with a dental laser, we can improve the health and beauty of your smile.

Save on Future Treatments

Because gum disease can increase your risk of permanent gum recession and tooth loss, it should be treated as soon as possible. Getting an early diagnosis can help you save money on more expensive, invasive treatments such as gum grafting surgery or dental implants.

So what does a typical laser gum treatment look like?

If You Have Gum Disease You Are Not Alone

If you are diagnosed with gum disease, you should not guilty or alone. Gum disease is an extremely common oral health concern

So what happens if you don’t get the treatment you need?

Smile with reddened gums

Untreated gum disease can lead to bleeding, redness, and eventually serious tissue degeneration.

Your Health and Finances Can Suffer

The only reliable solution to eliminate gum disease is to get professional treatment. When left untreated, periodontitis can have severe repercussions such as tooth loss and bone loss, which require costly restorative treatments such as dental implants and bone grafting

Fortunately, the most effective solution is simple, bladeless, and noninvasive.

Scaling and root planing can be completed in a single appointment or may be broken up into several visits.

If Routine Dental Maintenance Has Failed...

Scaling and root planing is the first line of attack against gum disease. Treatment is split into several steps:

Removing plaque from above and below gum line with a specially designed laser tool.

Smoothing out tooth roots to eliminate crevices in which future plaque could buildup.

Frequent checkups to monitor patient recovery.

What if scaling and root planing doesn't work?

Pocket reduction, also known as gum rejuvenation, is a minimally-invasive and bladeless treatment that can eliminate pockets and potentially save your tooth from an extraction. The procedure involves a few steps:

Removing Infected Tissue

Dr. O'Connor will use a laser to target and eliminate infected gum tissue on the inside lining of your periodontal pockets.

Scaling

He will then use a scaler to remove the bacteria buildups

Filling the Pockets

Using the laser, he will activate the bone cells in the remaining pocket and fill them with PeriAcryl®, an adhesive used for oral tissue.

Clotting

The PeriAcryl seals the area and begins clotting. Instead of using gauze, Dr. O'Connor can initiate clotting with a laser.

Recovering

You will begin your recovery. When you are fully healed, Dr. O'Connor can discuss your gum grafting options with you.

Results Can Improve the Health and Beauty of Your Smile

We have seen impressive results following gum rejuvenation. Professional periodontal treatment can help your gum tissue reattach to your tooth, even if you have very deep pockets. Treatment will also keep the area clean to prevent future infection. To help you maintain the results of your procedure, Dr. O'Connor will educate you on proper brushing techniques.
