Laser Dentistry Can Be Used to Treat a Variety of Concerns

And Many More Common Conditions

Why should I see a dentist who uses dental lasers?

Advanced Tools

Our office is equipped with a Fotona dental laser. This advanced laser has different settings, wavelengths, and applications that can be used to treat oral health conditions as well as cosmetic concerns with a single unit.

Improved Comfort

Because the laser uses fiber optics and does not make contact with your hard or soft tissue during treatment, it rarely requires numbing. Dr. O'Connor can use the dental laser to perform treatment for patients with no incisions, an expedited treatment time, and a faster recovery

Comprehensive Care

Dr. O'Connor can use a dental laser for much more than simply gum disease treatment. From minor cavity preparation to the treatment of sleep breathing disorders, Dr. O'Connor uses dental lasers to ensure comfortable care for a huge range of treatments.

Lasers Offer Virtually Unlimited Treatment Options

Dr. O'Connor can use a dental laser to complete various treatments, including:

Cavity Preparation

Rather than manually scraping away decay, Dr. O’Connor uses a laser to remove decay and prepare you for a tooth-colored filling. Because lasers are more precise than handheld tools, they preserve as much of the healthy tooth structure as possible.

Cold Sore Treatment

Dr. O’Connor uses a dental laser to speed up the recovery of cold sores, herpes simplex, and canker sores. The laser releases photons at a special wavelength that cuts down your recovery to a third of the time and allows you to bypass the typical healing process. This is especially useful for students or musicians who need to get rid of sores fast.

SmoothLase

With SmoothLase, we can use the laser for cosmetic enhancement. Using a special handpiece, Dr. O’Connor can target wrinkles around the mouth, encouraging tissue contraction and collagen growth to smooth out your features.

Gum Rejuvenation

For patients with advanced gum disease, we can perform laser gum rejuvenation to help the pockets reattach to the roots, reduce the symptoms of gum disease, and improve the overall look of your smile gums.

Gum Depigmentation

Dr. O’Connor can remove pigmentation from your gums in a comfortable, anesthesia-less treatment. He begins by applying a topical anesthetic and performing the treatment without contact. In one session, he can treat your gingiva from premolar to premolar. Because the gums heal quickly, the results are almost immediately visible.

Reduce Inflammation

Dr. O’Connor can use the laser to increase blood flow to the surgical site, reduce discomfort, and promote expedited healing. The laser also triggers coagulation and can be helpful for clotting after surgeries.

Root Canal Treatment

Dr. O’Connor understands that your teeth have many roots and soft tissue which can’t be accessed with traditional therapy.  He uses the laser's acoustics to break up infection more effectively than with traditional therapy. He is one of only 300 dentists who use this protocol, which is known as photon induced photoacoustic straining or PIPS.

Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. O’Connor can use a special setting on the laser to numb the tooth’s pain receptors and help children feel comfortable during dental treatment without the need for novocaine.

Root Desensitization

If you have an exposed root, it can be very painful and sensitive. We can use the laser to desensitize it. This is especially helpful for patients with insurance plans that will not cover exposed root treatment

Biomodulation

If you have a hypersensitive tooth, we can use the laser to reduce sensitivity. This makes eating hot or cold foods easier and can improve your quality of life

NightLase

NightLase is for patients with enlarged throat tissue that is causing them to snore or suffer from interrupted sleep. Traditionally, doctors remove this tissue manually. With NightLase, Dr. O'Connor can shrink excessive soft tissue in a minimally invasive, effective laser procedure.

Teeth Whitening

To perform in-office whitening, Dr. O’Connor uses a bleaching agent by Opalescence® tooth whitening systems and a rubber dam to protect the gum tissue. He then uses the laser to activate the components in the bleaching gel, giving you a brighter smile in just one visit.

Want to learn more about the advanced tools used in our office?

We Use Advanced Tools for Diagnosis and Treatment

When diagnosing our patients, we use digital x-rays and intraoral cameras. These tools give us a fast, safe way to diagnose your condition and show you why you need the proposed treatment.

Our Fotona laser is also one of the technological highlights of our office. We use dental lasers because they provide:

  • Diverse treatment options: Lasers can be used to improve the function and form of your smile.
  • Precise treatment: Because the laser can precisely target areas that need to be cut or ablated, it reduces damage to surrounding healthy structure.
  • Better comfort: Lasers ensure little to no bleeding during procedures, which in turn requires less healing.
  • Faster recovery: Because there are no incisions made with laser treatment, you can recover faster and enjoy your results faster.

How Laser Dentistry Helps Us Live Up to Our Mission

Our office is set up to provide comprehensive dentistry that encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of oral structures and their impact on the body. It is our purpose to ensure our patients enjoy a healthy mouth and a healthy body upon completion of treatment.
